Having clocked up 10 years at Balingup Heights it’s naturally been a time for reflection. Running a small business was always going to have its challenges. You know the story . . . city slickers doing the ‘tree change’ thing. Deb knee deep in nature with mild OCD regarding cleanliness, and Brian barely knowing which end of a hammer to use!
But it’s been an incredibly rewarding 10 years. We’ve been energised by the challenge of continuous learning, of moving country, running a small business, managing 46 acres, preparing for the bush fire season and coping with drought . . . all of this is intertwined with the vibrancy of immersing ourselves wholeheartedly in the dynamic, eclectic, loving community of Balingup.
And in the space of the last few weeks we’ve experienced possibly our most memorable high and most worrying low. Winning Gold at the recent Australian Tourism Awards is an awesome achievement and one that we’re incredibly proud of, yet with the escalation of the coronavirus/Covid-19 crisis around the world, we’re reminded of what’s most precious to us.
Good health and our family and friends!
Things are changing ever so quickly but as we write, Western Australia is under a restricted travel ban. This means the forthcoming Easter break and School Holidays will be very, very quite in our hilltop forest. We are keenly looking forward to the time when we can welcome you back to Balingup Heights.
Thank you – Deb, Brian, Asha, Mia and Maddy
