Balingup goes back in time…

This years Balingup Medieval Carnival was a great success – a warm, spring-like Saturday was followed by a Sunday of light drizzle. It set the medieval scene prefectly . . . picture long dresses dragging in the mud!!!!
There was plenty of entertainment to be had from musical groups, dance troups, loads of wandering entertainers . . . ‘Roz the Hag’ was in full swing and a new addition this year . . . ‘Richard the begger’! Just hilarious!
Brian loves getting amongst the thud of weapons in the medieval fighting arena. . . . must be a boy thing!
Mia spent her time combing the market stalls for trinkets and treasures, plus did the rounds of all things animals – reptile display, birds of pray, camels, horse and cart rides . . .
Asha just loves being in the midst of a crowd . . . and she and her group of friends like having the freedom to roam, shop, eat & chat! “Why?” I asked her would you have Chicken Treat for lunch . . . her reply “Because I can’t eat it any other weekend”!!! We’re spoilt for good, fresh, local produce.
The ‘Burning of the Dragon’ on Saturday night is always a favourite for me. Fabulous drumming with a bit of theatre from Warwick the Wizard.
The midday parade was a hoot as always – Brian was a ‘chicken puller’ this year and I rode a stunning ‘paper mache horse’! . . . good fun!
And although the event takes place within the Medieval Carnival grounds just off the main street, Balingup townsite takes on a carnival atmosphere with colourful larger than life jesters adorning the main street from end to end.
Well done to the committee . . . a massive effort by a bunch of fabulously creative volunteers.
