Racecourse Flora Reserve still blooming

Purple Enamel Orchid - Oct2015-3In Spring, the Balingup Racecourse Flora Reserve becomes a blaze of colour, with an amazing abundance and diversity of wildflowers.

A walk around the old racecourse last weekend revealed that there were still plenty of wildflowers in full bloom – donkey orchards abound! A feast for photographers.

The old Racecourse Flora Reserve is one of our favourite hidden gems, with each week of spring bringing change until early December. Banksia grandis (Bull Banksia) is one of the last plants to flower in the reserve with its wonderful bright yellow candles which then form into the well-known Banksia ‘seed’ or ‘nut’.
